"In every industry there is a group of people distinguished by a passion for excellence
and an eagerness for new ideas. In the Staging Industry, we are those people."
Stagedhomes was founded in 1999 by the person that created the Staging Industry. In 1972, the term "Home Staging" was coined by a Realtor who sold properties in the Seattle area. After meeting with resistance from clients asked to make changes that would make their houses look better for buyers prior to listing their properties, this agent, Barb Schwarz, stumbled upon the strategy that eventually launched an entire industry. Having both a theater and interior design background, she was able to use an analogy of the theater and apply it to real estate - with buyers being the audience, critics being other agents and sellers competing for the same buyers, the listing agent as the director, and the seller as the star. Sharing sellers need to "set the stage" or "set the scene" room by room in their home so the buyers are drawn in and appreciate the features of the home without being distracted - worked. Barb toured throughout the 1980's, educating real estate agents throughout the United States and Canada.
Flash forward to 1999 - the internet was new, and the idea of being able to use a global platform to sell courses was a novel idea. Stagedhomes was the first educational company with courses teaching about Home Staging. The ASP-RE Course was the first one to educate real estate agents about the importance of preparing properties for sale and provided key process, communication and scripting crucial for the successful outcome of conversations agents had with their sellers. Agents that attended the ASP-RE Course learned how to use Home Staging as a key listing tool to differentiate themselves and provide added value to their clients, and word spread.
The Accredited Staging Professionals (ASP) Home Stager Course was launched to teach aspiring stagers how to establish, market, manage and maintain a successful Staging business. For the first time, those who wanted to own a home staging business had a professional course they could take to earn respected industry credentials. The first courses were 2 days and then were expanded to 3 days. Home Staging is part of the REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY - not the interior design or decorating industries. Because of this, the Stagedhomes courses emphasize understanding the real estate process and how staging fits in for both the real estate agent process and the seller that wants to sell their property in the fastest time and at the best price.
The Accredited Staging Professional Master (ASPM) Course was launched in 2003 to provide more in-depth education on running a staging company. It was available only to ASP Home Stager graduates, as the ASPM Course took the ASP Stager Course content and provided more detailed teaching on concepts such as communication, process, and presentations.
In 2016, Stagedhomes founders sold the company to trusted industry pros and Stagedhomes course trainers who saw the vision in moving the company and courses into the future. Jennie Norris, President & CEO and her husband John Norris, ASP-RE, Sr Exec VP are the primary owners with 6 minority investors comprising 30% ownership. The new owners updated the company logos and website and revised the courses. They also created new courses. The Accredited Staging Assistant Course launched to provide education for those who want to use their creativity and work in home staging but not own and operate a company. It has been a very popular course that allows larger company owners to find trained industry pros who understand the process and professional standards needed to be a good addition to a team.
In 2020, the ASP Master Course was updated to offer actual advanced training on how to grow and SCALE a business. It addresses how to grow a business using the principles of SCALE - Delegation, Team Building, Pricing & Profit, Presentation Skills, Marketing and Social Media Strategies, Cultivating Leaders, planning for an eventual exit from the industry, plus much more.
REACHING a GLOBAL AUDIENCE
Through the years, Stagedhomes had a number of students attend from foreign countries requiring these students to travel to the US to receive the elite education. In early 2016, Jennie Norris was teaching an ASP Masters Course in Atlanta and met Sanja Radovanovic, who was from Chicago but moving back to Rome. Jennie recognized in Sanja the qualities needed to launch the IAHSP Association and ASP Home Staging education and in Europe. In 2018, with Jennie working with Sanja and another ASP Master Stager, Verena Mumford, the International Association of Home Staging Professionals (IAHSP) Europe was officially launched. Sanja and Verena were trained as ASP CourseTrainers, and since they both speak multiple languages, it opened the door for non-English speaking students to learn and earn their ASP-RE and ASP Home Stager credentials. In 2024, IAHSP Europe was rebranded EAHSP - European Association of Home Staging Professionals - and helps guide the home staging industry growth throughout Europe.
The ASP-RE and ASP Home Stager Courses have been translated in multiple languages and are taught virtually and on-demand, allowing anyone anywhere to attend and earn industry credentials. The first European Masters Course was taught live in LONDON in 2023 and will continue to be brought to our global audience with the next ASPM-EU Course scheduled for Athens, Greece in 2025.
